I've kind of lost track of the photo challenge for the past few days. I will try to get back on track. I was in a bit of a funk and feeling really down. So I got to thinking, and just wrote this out earlier today.
Dear Self,
"You is kind. You is smart. You is important." - The Help by Kathryn Stockett
I know you've had trouble believing that over the past 25 years. I say it's about time to change that, don't you? Yes, I know it's going to be hard, and it's going to take a long time, but it will be worth it in the end. You've had so many people tell you things the exact opposite over the years (even me) that you just believed the things they said, and even started saying it about yourself. Not good, self, not good. You've spent years feeling less than worth it, and hating yourself for the faults pointed out by others, and by you. But over the past couple of years, you've met some amazingly supportive friends who have helped you to realize that you are indeed worth it.

My promise to you, dear self, is to learn to love you and care for you, body and soul. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to do that, but it will happen. I promise to tell you something good about yourself every day. I promise to drink more water. I promise to let you believe compliments when they are paid to you. I promise to try to replace a negative thought about you with a positive one. I promise to start going for a walk with you every day. I promise to learn not to let the negative things people say affect you. I promise that someday, down the line, you will stop feeling like every day was a waste, and you will find the ever present joy in life instead. You don't have to be perfect. I know you want to be, but that just isn't going to happen. Be happy with who you are and learn to love it. Because you deserve it, and damned be the people who don't agree. Lucky for you, you have a sweet, darling little boy who loves you completely, and many friends who love you just how you are and want to see you happy. I believe that if we work together, we can be that and so much more. You can be everything you envision, but first you need to learn to love yourself. And I am going to help you achieve that. Oh just think of how happy you will be once that happens. It won't be easy, and you will probably want to throw in the towel at times, but just think of how good it will feel to look in the mirror and feel love instead of disappointment and loathing. You can do it, and I'll be with you every step of the way.
I love you. And don't forget...
You is kind. You is smart. You is important.
